Fiber Artist
Working from her farm in rural Maryland, Dalis Davidson raises sheep and hand-dyes the fibers she uses to build her landscapes. Her works layer wool, artisan yarns, recycled silk saris, hand-raised silkworm silk, tencel, organic cotton, velvet, lace, and reclaimed plastic fiber across a felt base, nearly all of it dyed by hand, then bind them together through needle felting, a process of piercing the surface with fine barbed needles until the layers become inseparable.
Not quite paintings, not quite sculptures, her compact works depict the meadows, coasts, and seascapes of a quieter world. Dalis's landscapes range widely, from pastoral countryside to golden shores, occasionally leaning psychedelic, but share a density of material and care. Up close, tiny differences reveal themselves and favorites emerge.
